Implementing Enterprise Project Management is about Adopting a consistent set of core project management practices across an organization. Typical “off the shelf” generic training for project management techniques or project management software tools is very ineffective in promoting Adoption. It can enhance an individual’s resume but has little impact on an organization’s ability to implement Enterprise Project Management and manage their projects more effectively.
Paul Strebel wrote in the Harvard Business Review (May-June 1996), "Corporate reengineering success rates in Fortune 1,000 companies are well below 50%; some say they are as low as 20%."
Pinnacle believes one key element to reengineering a company’s project management capability is contextual training specific to the organization and the tasks that the project managers, and other related roles, have to perform. Our training is structured around specific deliverables that an individual has to produce (estimates, change requests, project plans, etc.) and integrates both the process and tool guidance. The Update and Reporting Cycle (weekly, monthly, etc) is also integrated into this hands-on training so that everyone is clear on when tasks have to be performed.
Individuals leave these training classes knowing what they have to do, how to do it and when they need to do it. This provides a solid foundation for adopting Enterprise Project Management.
Contextual training is followed up by structured coaching at key points to ensure new tools and techniques are being applied.
