Pinnacle's Services for Upgrading to Primavera P6 V8

With P6 Release 8 Oracle Primavera continues its push toward the Enterprise environment and the web. This P6 V8 upgrade is a very significant enhancement.

Pinnacle worked with a Fortune 5 company to support their worldwide effort to re-engineer their Product Development and Deployment and we see Oracle Primavera P6 Release 8 as a truly robust and Enterprise level tool.

For existing users it’s time to take a serious look at the web capabilities of Primavera P6 V8. Highlights are:

• A long list of enhancements to the web product that deliver many valuable new capabilities.
• Administration is moved from the client to the web. This means that the client is now an optional component and the web is mandatory.
• Methodology Manager has been discontinued
• Release 8 is tightly integrated with the Oracle Enterprise environment (workflow, security, online training, reporting). Some P6 specific capabilities like the workflows are now removed and replaced by the Oracle workflow capability (BPM).

The web now has the best functionality for Enterprise Project Management, Project Portfolio Management, Resource Management, Issue Management and Risk Management.

The Primavera P6 V8 client is positioned as the tool for experienced planners with schedules for large projects.

Existing users of Oracle Primavera P6 should now consider moving many of their users to the web. Nearly all functionality available in the client is now available in the web in P6 v8. In some areas there is additional functionality on the web and it is clear that the direction is to continue to focus enhancements on the web.

Moving to the web has significant benefits to your organization:

• Lower cost of ownership than the client
• Users can sign in from any machine with a browser
• In many areas there is greater functionality on the web
• Take advantage of integration with the Oracle Enterprise applications for workflow and reporting. These applications provide sophisticated functionality and also allow integration with other business applications.

Some professional planners already using Primavera P6 and dealing with large, complex projects may need to stay on the P6 client but most users can and should be moved to the web. While there are many similarities for planners moving from the client to the web some training will be needed.
